UV energy measurement


Watt/cm (W/cm) is the power unit for general UV lamps. It is based on Ohm's law volt (voltage) x ampere (current) = watt (power); for example, ST UV equipment is usually equipped with 200 W /cm tube. The watt/square centimeter or milliwatt/square centimeter represents the peak illuminance (UV energy) in each unit area when the radiometer passes under the UV lamp, for example, 2800 mw/cm2 or 2.8W/cm2. The total power of a 108 cm tube is 108cm x 200W/cm=21600W=21.6kw (21.6 thousand watts).

The relationship between UV energy and UV band


The high-precision UV energy meter can also measure the band of energy emitted by the UV lamp and the UV energy of different sections. The energy readings shown in the above picture are: UV-A = 317.793, UV-B = 329.951, UV- C= 73.228, UV-V= 196.516 mj/cm2, which means that it is a lamp mainly in the UV-A and UV-B bands; the energy of the UV-C band is lower!


At the same time, it also shows the peak UV energy (mW/cm2) of the color under the current irradiation conditions. If you use UV energy stickers to measure, usually you can only read the maximum value of the UV energy received on the paper in a certain band or the average value of all bands. Different brands of energy stickers will be very different due to the UV band received and different light-sensing chemical compositions. Therefore, the data is only suitable for relative reference and comparison.


For silk screen or gravure UV ink printing, due to the deep ink layer, in order to obtain an ideal curing effect, a UV-A band lamp (containing gallium-indium) with strong penetrating ability should be selected. At the same time, the ink manufacturer needs to be in the light The curing agent has some cooperation, and finally we must pay attention to whether the UV reflector can match the reflection efficiency of the UV-A band. The rapid curing of the ink layer or varnish surface can produce UV-C band UV lamps with better results. General mercury UV lamps produce UV wavelengths in the range of 200-320um, which are typical UV-C band lamps. IST's standard blue URS reflector can reflect UV wavelengths from 200-450um, which can completely cover UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C, even UV-V band UV light reflection.
